THE QUINTESSENCE SERIES – Interview with Dr. Sharon Horne

The quintessence series was created by Urvi Paralkar.This month, the quintessence series spotlights the work of Dr. Sharon G. Horne. Dr. Horne is Professor of Counseling Psychology at The University of Massachusetts Boston. Her research is on sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression related to legislation, policy, and transnational concerns. From 2012-2021, she provided leadership as an elected American Psychological Association Representative to the International Psychology Network for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Issues (IPsyNet). She chaired the policy committee that drafted the IpsyNet Statement and Commitment on LGBTI Concerns, an LGBTI-affirmative declaration that has been endorsed by 43 national and international psychology organizations and translated into thirteen languages. Dr. Horne is a Global Fulbright Scholar (2018-2022; Colombia, South Africa, and the Philippines), and was an Open Society Foundation Academic Fellow with the Psychology Department of American University of Central Asia in Kyrgyzstan from 2005-2015. She received the 2020 Award for Distinguished Contributions to the International Advancement of Psychology from the American Psychological Association (APA) in recognition for her transnational work.
