Please consider participating in this year’s Community Engagement Committee event at theAPA Convention on Friday August 5, 8am-12pm! Each year, in an effort to give back and engage with the community where conferences are held, the SCP’s Community Engagement Committee (CEC) hosts an event at the APA Convention. This year’s event in Denver, CO, will be a community service project aimed at improving the grounds of The Bridge Project, a community outreach initiative of the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Denver. The Bridge Project is located one mile from the convention center. The Bridge Project organizes a summer program for approximately 60 low-income, at-risk youth in the community. During the service project, we will be painting, gardening, cleaning, cooking, and providing activities for the children (K-8th grade).
While this event is being hosted by CEC, all SCP students and members are encouraged and invited to participate. Your assistance will make a difference in the lives of these children as well as future children who attend The Bridge Project Summer Program. CEC will provide lunch for the children and all volunteers. To sign up or for more information on volunteering or donating, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Kayi Hui ([email protected]). You may also contact either of the current chairs, Clarissa Richardson ([email protected]) or Sarah Nolan ([email protected]). Those of us who have served on this committee have been deeply grateful for the opportunity and feel that this committee, with its mission and purpose of giving back to and engaging with diverse communities, is not only truly inspirational but also a lot of fun. See you in Denver, CO!
Clarissa Richardson, Ph.D.
