We are excitedly gearing up for what promises to be a convention with lots of wonderful programming. Please make note of the following events and plan to attend any or all of the ones that capture your interest. We welcome your presence and invite you to become more involved with SAW.
On Thursday (8/4), we will be facilitating a symposium (8:00-8:50AM in Convention Center Room 111) entitled “Women in the Academy: Diverse Faculty Members Share Their Unique Paths of Success.” Join Laurel Watson (SAW Chair-Elect) and Debra Mollen (SAW Chair), along with our esteemed presenters—Drs. Jean Lau Chin, Cirleen DeBlaere, Tania Israel, Arpana Inman, Debra Kawahara, Isis Settles, and Wendi Williams—in what promises to be an inspiring group of presentations designed to serve as mentorship and inspiration to all.
On Thursday (8/4), from 12:00-12:50PM, we’ll be facilitating a conversation hour as part of the Division 17 Section Roundtable. Special thanks to Nadia Hasan, SAW Membership Chair, who suggested the focus for our discussion. Our topic is “Putting Our Feminist Values into Practice in the Workplace” (Convention Center Mile High Ballrooms 2A and 3A).
On Thursday (8/5) as part of the Division 17 Social Hour to be held at the Hyatt Regency Denver at 5:00PM, we will be featuring three student posters:
- Hillary McBride, University of British Columbia, “Body Image and Embodiment among Midlife Women: A Review of the Current Literature.”
- Stephanie Harrison and Mary Jo Loughran, Chatham University, “Instrumentality and Self-Objectification, “Female Athletes’ Perceptions of Male Coaching Behaviors.”
- Elizabeth Harris, Deepta DasGupta, Kristin Hultgren, and Krista Klabo, University of Denver, “Design and Implementation of the Post-nuptial Depression Scale.”
On Friday (8/5), from 9:00-11:00AM, please join us for the annual SAW Breakfast and Business Meeting in the Division 17 Hospitality Suite located in the Brown Palace Hotel at 321 17th Street Denver in the Highlands room. We’ll spotlight achievements, announce results of our recent elections, designate 2016 SAW Award Winners, and look ahead to the coming year in our section. Immediately following our meeting, join us for what promises to be an inspirational talk, entitled, “The Love Campaign: How Divorce, Friendship, and Yoga Changed My Life” from the SAW 2015 Woman of the Year, Dr. Meghan Davidson, also located in the Division 17 Hospitality Suite.
Finally, please visit us online to keep up with our developments on our website (https://sites.google.com/site/div17saw/home) and take just a minute to like us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/SawDiv17APA).
