At the February meeting of the APA Council, APA President, Dr. Nadine Kaslow, honored two Counseling Psychologists with Presidential Citations. Dr. lore dickey and Dr. Anneliese Singh had just conducted an excellent and well-received diversity training about transgender and gender non-conforming persons. Dr. Kaslow noted the importance of Early Career Psychologists’ contributions to the discipline.
LORE M. DICKEY PHD– FOR HIS KNOWLEDGE AND DEDICATION TO POSITIVE IDENTITY DEVELOPMENT FOR LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, TRANSGENDER (LGBT) AND GENDER NON-CONFORMING PEOPLE
An early career psychologist, lore m. dickey, PhD, is already an established international expert on the issues and concerns of transgender and gender non-conforming identity, with conference presentations in Bangkok, Cape Town and Oslo. Dr. dickey, a 2011 graduate, is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology and Behavioral Science at Louisiana Tech University. He has published on the health disparities, mental health concerns, insurance coverage and physical and behavioral transgender health and provided editorial, program and grant reviews for a range of publications and research processes. He is co-author of the proposed Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Transgender and Non-conforming Clients and has served in leadership roles in the APA Society of Counseling Psychology and the APA Society for the Psychological Study of LGBT Issues, and chaired the APAGS Committee on LGBTC Concerns.
ANNELIESE A. SINGH PHD– FOR HER KNOWLEDGE AND DEDICATION TO POSITIVE IDENTITY DEVELOPMENT FOR MULTIPLY MARGINALIZED YOUTH
A dedicated and prolific early career psychologist, Anneliese Singh, PhD, models multicultural competence as a psychologist committed to social change and advocacy for the needs of marginalized youth. Currently Associate Professor at the University of Georgia in the Department of Counseling and Human Development Services, Dr. Singh involves her students as community partners with grassroots organizations and schools. She is an international expert on queer, transgender and questioning youth and the intersection of racial, ethnic and LGBTQ identity development. The co-author of the proposed Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Transgender and Gender Non-conforming Clients, she publishes and presents internationally on LGBTQ youth and adults, traumatology, Asian American/Pacific Islander counseling and psychology, social justice training and supervision, fostering resilience and qualitative methodology. She has already received numerous awards as an outstanding teacher, researcher, group practitioner, and social advocate.
