The Community Engagement Committee of Division 17 (Society of Counseling Psychology) is putting out a call for volunteers for this year’s community engagement project:  Help, Hope, and Healing: Surviving Military Loss.   It is a workshop to provide information and resources to families on grief that is unique to losing a military loved one.

Thursday, August 7, 8am-12pm at The Pew Center in Washington, DC

Volunteers will help with all aspects of the program, including facilitating small discussion groups. This is a wonderful opportunity especially for ECPs and students to engage in meaningful work with other dedicated professionals in the field.

As past Co-Chair of the CEC and member for 4 years, I can say that for me, involvement in these projects every year has been one of the most rewarding (and fun) aspects of attending Convention.

The mission of the CEC is to work for social justice by supporting and promoting the empowerment of underserved individuals, families, and communities in host cities where APA’s convention is held.  In recent years, the CEC has provided a compassion fatigue workshop to homeless service providers in Honolulu and partnered with Harbor House, a domestic violence shelter in Orlando and Whitman Walker Health, a community health clinic in DC specializing in LGBT and HIV services.
