Student Affiliates of Seventeen (SAS) is excited to announce our student programming for this year’s Annual Convention. SAS will host the following events:
A workshop, “How to be a PsychAdvocate: Students Advocating for Change” will be held on Friday, August 5th from 1:00-2:50PM in the SCP Hospitality Space, Onyx Room. We are honored that Karen Studwell, JD, the Associate Executive Director for Education GovernmentRelations for APA, will run the workshop. The SAS Social Hour will be held on Friday, August 5th from 6:30-7:30PM at the Territory Kitchen & Bar, which is located at the corner of 14th and Welton, inside the Hilton Garden Inn. Light refreshments will be provided.
SAS Symposium, “Student Voices: Examining the Complexities of Power and Privilege in Higher Education” will be held on Saturday, August 6th from 11:00-11:50AM in the Convention Center, Room 112. The three presentations are: 1) #concernedstudent1950: A Case-Study of Institutional Racism at the University of Missouri, 2) Grad Students Talk: A Student-Led Response Discussing Power and Privilege, and 3) Privileged in the Academy: Positioning Counseling Psychology in Current Student Protests. We are privileged that the discussant will be Julia C. Phillips, PhD (Cleveland State University).
A panel discussion, “Social Media as a Vehicle for Social Justice and Advocacy” will be held on Saturday, August 6th from 1:00-1:50PM in the SCP Hospitality Space, Highlands Room. We are excited to announce that Candice Crowell, PhD (University of Kentucky), Aaron Rochlen, PhD, (University of Texas at Austin), and Della Mosley, M.S., Ed.S. (University of Kentucky), will lead the panel discussion.
