Delishia M. Pittman, Ph.D.

I am honored to be considered for the Society of Counseling Psychology (SCP) representative for the APA Council of Representatives. I am Associate Professor of Counseling and Director of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at The George Washington University, where I chair the Graduate School’s DEI committee.  

My understanding of our field and extensive service to SCP includes:

  • SCP representative on the 2022 NMCS coordinating committee (2019-2022) 
  • SCP APA Convention Program tri-chair (2021) 
  • Chair, SCP Section on Ethnic and Racial Diversity (SERD) (2014-2018) 
  • Domestic Diversity Committee Co-Chair, SCP International Counseling Psychology Conference (2014) 
  • Editorial positions for The Counseling Psychologist, Journal of Counseling & Development, and the Journal of Multicultural Counseling and Development 

 My work serving historically underserved communities has been recognized: 

  • Early Career Award for Racial/Ethnic Minority Psychologist in Trauma Psychology, Division 56: Trauma Psychology (2019) 
  • American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) Early Career Psychology Diversity Award (2020) 
  • APA Award for Distinguished Professional Contributions to Independent Practice (2022) 

I am committed to SCP playing a central role in challenging inequity across the profession, dismantling bias toward marginalized groups, and remedying enduring forms of injustice by: 

  • Advocating for diversity science that addresses systems of oppression. 
  • Pursuing behavioral health equity and access to culturally responsive and affordable care.    
  • Seeking practices that ensure the development of a well-trained, diverse, and thriving psychology workforce grounded in a liberation etic.  
  • Promoting interdisciplinary research and implementation of evidenced-based practices that strengthen individuals, families, & communities. 


Roger L. Worthington, Ph.D.

I am honored to be nominated for Division 17 Council of Representatives. I have been a member of Division 17 since 1994, a fellow of the Society of Counseling Psychology since 2008, and I served as the Vice President for Diversity and the Public Interest (2008-11). I served as a member of the APA Task Force on Appropriate Therapeutic Responses to Sexual Orientation (2007-09), and as Division 17 coordinator for the National Multicultural Conference and Summit (2011). I was a founding member of the board of directors for the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education (2008-14), editor of the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education (2011-18), associate editor of the Journal of Counseling Psychology (2011-13), a member of the editorial board of The Counseling Psychologist (2001-03), and the founding chair of the board of directors for the Difficult Dialogues National Resource Center (2012-15). I am currently a professor of counseling psychology and founding executive director of the Center for Diversity and Inclusion in Higher Education at the University of Maryland. 

My current work centers on antiracism, justice, equity, inclusion, and diversity in institutions of higher education, conducting campus climate assessments, promoting efforts to dismantle systems of oppression, and advancing difficult dialogues. My scholarship has focused on sexual identity development, multicultural counseling competencies, scale development research, and difficult dialogues teaching and learning. As a Latinx member of SCP, I have a commitment to elevating anti-oppression work within APA and beyond for all members of marginalized and minoritized groups.
